About Nikki
A Native Austinite, I always had a desire to encourage and help others. Then, in high school I was inspired by my psychology teacher to match my gifts to a counseling career. After receiving my psychology undergraduate degree, life took many twists and turns. Recently, I continued pursuing my dream to become a counselor. Currently in practicum for my Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University, I now realize that my twists and turns provided a long history of experience and wisdom that improves my counseling.
Using a client-centered approach, I like to empower clients to utilize their strengths to overcome their struggles. It is important to work collaboratively with clients to determine clear and measurable goals. I include Evidence Based Practice, ensuring research behind my techniques and practices.
It is important not to make assumptions about clients but view them holistically. Examining all aspects of a client’s life allows for better results including their physical health, thought cycles, social support, and potentially spiritual aspects influencing a client. Incorporating a CBT approach, I like to examine how our thoughts impact our emotions and behaviors. I also like to view relationships using a Family Systems approach, examining how these relationships foster multilayered interactions.
Most importantly, it is vital that clients have hope for their future. During our struggles, things can seem all encompassing. Walking through those struggles together, clients can learn not only how to be resilient but even find joy through our tough places.
