What is a difference maker?
A difference maker is one who celebrates the new life they have in Jesus by bringing His life to others.
The resurrection of Jesus changes everything about the way we live our lives. Jesus rose from the dead to give us new life in the here and now. With this new life, we are called to become difference makers and bring life (the hope and presence of Jesus) to the world.
"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
Romans 6:4
How to Get Involved
While there are many issues facing our world today, we will look at Human Trafficking, Unplanned Pregnancy, Poverty, and Neighboring. Discover more about each topic and learn how you can become a Difference Maker today!
Slavery is often considered a historical problem. That’s why it is shocking to learn there are more people trapped in modern-day slavery—or human trafficking—today than at any other point in history.
The news of pregnancy is often met with unbridled excitement, festive gender reveal parties, and lavish baby showers. Unfortunately, not all pregnancies are celebrated, especially when they are unwanted at the time of conception. Sadly, many unplanned pregnancies end in abortion. In fact, today Texas accounts for 6.4% (55,000) of abortions of the total 850,000 in United States annually.
Many of us are fortunate enough to have our basic necessities met each day. However, this is not the case for everyone. Approximately 11.4% of Americans are living below the poverty line marked at $26,695 for a family of four.
When you consider Jesus’ command to love our neighbors, do you think He meant we should love our actual neighbors? Now consider the positive impact we can have in our neighborhoods, Greater Austin, and beyond if we loved, served, and engaged with them in a Christ-like way. The problem is that most Christ-followers lack close relationships with people who don’t know God, including those living in our own neighborhoods or are working alongside us.
